monthly meeting. The Fire Board met last night. Present: Messrs J. B. Cameron (chairman), E. H. Andrews, E. Parlane, T. H. Butterficld, T. M. Charters, and H. E. Rusbridge. An apology was received from Mr K. W. Kobinson. The executive of the Board reported having accepted the following tenders: For uniforms, Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company, Ltd., £202 lis; 24 | pairs of walking boots, Messrs H. Pannell and Company, 26s per pair. The executive's action was confirmed. Superannuation Scheme. The secretary of the Fire Boards' Conference, 1927, wrote regarding pensions, superannuation, provident, or savings scheme, stating that the National Provident Fund was preparing a scheme providing for a retiring age of 60, and setting out the contributions payable by the Board and by the members of its staff. • The chairman read the remit agreed to at the conference, which was in favour of a central scheme for all Fire Boards. It was decided to await the details of the National Provident Fund's scheme, and to consider it with other schemes received. New Motor for Woolston. Begarding the report of the superintendent relative to placing the No. S Dennis motor pump in commission at Woolston, held over from the previous meeting, the chairman said that it was realised that the pump was unsuitable. The reason why decision had been postponed was to enable a fuller meeting to deal with the matter. It was decided to instruct the superintendent to call for tenders for a new motor for Woolston. | Fire Losses. | The superintendent (Mr C. C. Warner) reported that between June sth | and July 2nd, 18 calls were received; 10 were for actual fires on property; five were chimney fires; one for a rubbish fire; one justifiable false alarm, and one malicious false alarm. Estimated fire loss, £1535; insurances on buildings and contents £23,260; estimated values of property actually affected, £34,670. Authority was requested to obtain a new set of tyres for the No. 2 Dennis engine at St. Albans; and to have certain renovations done at the Headquarters, Sydenham, and Woolston Fire Stations. These clauses were adopted, and the authority asked for granted. Institute of Fire Engineers. The chairman brought up the question of the Board making a grant to the Institute of Fire Engineers to assist that body to meet its administrative costs, estimated at £SO or £6O per annum. It waß decided to ascertain what the other principal Boards were doing in the matter, and if it was found that they were willing to contribute, the Christchurch Board would also do so.
