Mr G.'Mitchell,was in the chair and delegates were present from the Auckland,. Christchurch, South Canterbury, Feilding, Balmerston North, Wanganui, North Otago, Taranaki,. Hawke's Bay, and . Wellington Societies. , The following remits were carried: ."That all agricultural aiid. pastoral societies be asked to adopt a time when cows must be milked 80 as to . prevent needless cruelty." " . ' . "That representations be again made to the" proper quarter with a,-view to bringing about improved conditions of transport for iiv© stook ; by rail, road, and steamer." . . * . ' 'That the conference urge upon the responsible authorities the necessity for passing regulations, making ;it an offence' to. carry dogs on the-running boards of cars unless adequate .protection is provided for thenu ' "That efforts. be made to introduce legislation to bring .aboutstandardised ; humane methods of slaughtering stock at freezing works, abattoirs, and other places where stock is slaughter <>d-.'
