PERSONAL. (sncui. to t*i piss*.) GBEYMOUTH, June 8. Miss 2d". Shannon, who has been visiting Greymouth, returned yesterday to Wellington. Misscß E. and C. Tanner, who have been visiting their parents in Greymouth, left yesterday on return to Wellington. Miss ttrba Kilpatrick, who has been on an extended visit to Sydney, returned yesterday. Mr P. J. McLean (chairman of the Greymouth Harbour' Board) returned yosterday from Wellington. Miss Oon Menzies arrived yesterday from Menzies Bay, on a visit to friends in Greymouth, Mr Jules Gebbie, of tho JReefton Post and Telegraph Department, haß been transferred to Greymouth. Boy Scouts. A special meeting of the Greymouth Boy Scouts was held on Friday evening, to form a committee to find ways and moans of raising funds to send the troop to camp (Christchurch), to meet Lord Baden-Powell, early next year. It was decided to write to the Borough Council regarding their intention of shifting the Scouts' Hall, as the committee want to get on with extensions and renovations. The chairman (Mr A. E. Kilgour), thanked Mr Switzer, who had been absent from the Coast for tho last two years, and who has again promised his services as scoutmaster. Omoto Road. In response to a request for assistance in the case of the proposed widening and Improving the visibility on tho road from Greymouth to Omoto the Grey County indicated its willingness to.find £SOO, subject to the submission of satisfactory proposals. The Main Highways Board agrees to this work being put in hand, and Will pay a subsidy of £2 for £l, on an expenditure not exceeding £ISOO. Weatland Power Board. The Diesel engine plant, to be used as a stand-by for Westland Power, Ltd., has been erected on Kanieri road, and a successful trial run took place on Friday. The plant is capable of developing 250 h.p. It will be used in case of emergency when the hydro-electrie plant is interrupted temporarily and as an auxiliary as circumstances warrant. Obituary. The death took place at Hokitika yesterday of Mrs Margaret Keane, widow of the late Mr John Keane. She was a native of Galway, Ireland, aged 82, and had lived 63 years in New Zealand. She leaves four daughters and two sens. The latter both reside In Gisborne. E.S.A. The Hokitika branch of the Beturned Soldiers' Association held Its *™u*f meeting on Friday evening, Mr D. J. ; Evans (president) presiding. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr D. J. Evans; secretary, Mr B. Paterson; committee: Messrs A. J. Appleton, A. Armstrong, Bade, Bleach, Brown, Ede, Gilchrist, Lynch, Menzies, and Stuart. Mr B. Paterson was appointed branch delegate to the annual conference in Wellington,, on June 24th. Vo* Xnenffamta, Bums and Hinton scored tries, sad Davit converted West Coast defeated Boiler, 25.10. Scores for West Coast were registered by Wilson, Jamieson, King, and Houston, one try each. Martyn kicked three penalties and one eonversion. J. Bell seettred one conversion. For Buller, Gilbert secured three tries and two conversions, and Grogan two tries. For Coast, Wilson and Freltas were prominent in the forward division. Davidson, Houston, and King were the plait of the bioks, and Martyn" s kicking was a feature. Gilbert and Grogan were the best Bailer's division, and Gardiner. IfeOabe, Goodall, and MeNeights wers prominent in the forward*. Dennehy, playing for Oeast, retired in the first spell suffering from eremp. and King was injured and retired in the second spell. At Hokitika, Kiwi Juniors drew with ttlmu, 3 all. Soccer.
