"HAMLET" ROYAL COMMAND.

all stab cast, (lIOK OW* OWt COJUMWOIfDIST.) LONDON, May 8. Mr Henry Aialey awwtmced at the special matine* performance of "Hamlet," at the Haymarket Theatre, yeatetdt*y, that the King and Queen had own: tnanded a performance there , on May 19th. The announcement came as a tribute to the stage from their Majes. who have already lent their patronage to the production. It -was by an "all star" oast. Besides Mr Ainley, playing Hamlet for the first time in hia long career, Mr Herbert Waring came out of retirement to play tolonius. Famous Names. Miss Irene Vanbrugh was the Queen, Mies Gvyen Ffrangcou-Davies Ophelia, OS* Malcolm Keen the King, and Mr Colin Olive (the Stanhope o£ "Journey's End") Laertes. Mr Godfrey Tearle had the comparatively small part of Horatio, Mr Baliol Hollovyay, himsolf a famous Hamlot f was content to be little more than a disembodied voice as the Ghost. . Mr Cedric Hardwicke (the King of Mr G. B. Shaw's "Apple Cart") was the First Gravedigger, and Mr Ernest Thesiger had but a few words to say as the foppish Osrie. * Miss Diana Forbes-Robertson (Sir Johnston's 15-year-old daughter) her first "walkihg-on" part as the Queen's page. Sir Johnston Forbes-Eobertson, whose Hamlet is now traditional, supervised the whole production, and for the. first time the beautiful costumes desired by the late 'Mr Percy Maequoid for an American production ware worn on the stage. Mr Ainley's Hamlet must stand otot, late in bis career though it be, as one of his foost inspired achievements. It was a mature' Hamlflt—-lacking - in gait the alacrity of youth, but with sorrow and suffering in voice and mien such as youth cannot know. It will remain a memory of great beauty to all who hear it.
