TIMARU NEWS.

SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs C. Bowker, Sefton street, has returned from Duriedin. Mrs C. R. Orr Walker, and her children, Sefton street, havo returned from a holiday at Tekapo. Miss Patricia Ritchie (Te Tawa) left yesterday to stay with Mrs R. Ritchie (Dunedin). Mrs E. P. Chapman and Miss Chapman (Salisbury) have returned from a short visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs A. J. Dunn, Christ's College, who have been spending a few days in Timaru, have returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Percy Elworthy (Gordon's Valley), who were the guests of Mrs A. S. Elworthv (Holme Station), have returned home. Mr and Mrs O 'Donnell Davis, Christ's College, have returned to Christchurch. Among the guests at the Grosvenor Hotel are Mr and Mrs N. Rutherford (Parnassus), Mrs W. Wauchop (Christchurch), Messrs L. C. Macartliur (Christchurch), H. M. Guy (Wellington), S. B. Simpson (Christchurch), and C. G. Schumaker (Christchurch). Recent arrivals at the Dominion Hotel include Mr H. J.. Preston (Auckland), Mr C. Lipscombe (Dunedin), Mr J. C. Brown (Palmerston North), and Mr Thomas N. Newman (Christchurch).

EDGEWARE TENNIS CLUB'S DANCE.

:In the Winton street Hall on Thursday evening the Edgeware Tennis Club held its annual dance and presentation of prizes. Mr Fritz Seymour's Orchestra supplied the music. The committee who were responsible for the success of the evening were Mrs Mcßae, Misses A. Douglat and H. Thompson and Messrs J. H. Griffiths, L. M. Kissel, and J. Shier. During the evening the president, Mr D. "C. Burns presented the trophies to the successful competitors in the club competitions. Mr J. Mercer 2 of the Suburban Lawn Tennis Association, presented the "B" Grade Shield to the captain of the Edgeware team, which won the competition.

Amongst those present were Mesdames W Forgie, D. M. Mcßae, W. Beanland and C. Uren, Misses E. Armstrong, M. Armstrong, Mona McKenzie. Ethel Davev. Thelma Robson, Peggv Watt, Olive Holmes. DANCE AT WAIPARA.

The Waipara entertainment committee held on enjoyable dance on Wednesday evening. Music was supplied by Mrs Ferguson (piano) and by Mr Hall (Onuhi) (violin). Extras were played by Misses J. Ferguson, J. Kilty, and M. Whyte. Mr R. Htyland was M.C. Much amusement was caused by the balloon and streamer dances and fancy paper hats. The lucky spot waltz was won by Miss P. Treloar and Mr Glenday, while a novelty competition was won by Miss M. Laredo and Mr N. Hadfieia.
