LATE SIR GEORGE CLIFFORD.

TRIBUTE BY A. & P. ASSOCIATION. At tho meeting of the general committee of the Canterbury A, and P. Association yesterday, the president (Mr L. B. C. Maefarlane) wade reference to the death of Sir George Clifford, and a motion of sympathy with Lady Clifford and her family was passed by silent vote, all standing. In the' course of his remarks, Mr Mdcfarlane 6aid that Sir George Clifford had joined the committee of the Association in 1896 and had served continuously since then, lie Was elected piesident of the Association in 1911. Vor many years he was chairman of the Bheep Committee, and in this capacity and on other committees maintained unflagging interest in the welfare of thd Association and the advancement of tho pastoral industry. It was little more than a year ago since Sir George, after a recovery from one of tho severe illnesses which he suffered, attended a committee meeting of the Association. Exhibits from "Stonyhufst" since tho early nineties had hgured prominently in the catalogue of the show each year, and tho distribution of stock from "Stony' hurst*' had done a great deal for the improvement of several breeds. Members of the committee privileged to Work witjb Sir George would always remember his courtesy and his zeal, for what irt his judgment was likely to make for the betterment of the primary producers of the Dominion. Mr Maefariane then moved: "That this committee extends to Lady Clifford and family its sympathy with them tii their bereavement and records with gratitude the sterling service Blf George rendered to-the Association during his long connexion with it." On another occasion, said Mr Maefariane, he hoped it would be posiible to take steps to perpetuate the name of the late Sir George Clifford in connexion with the Association.
