FATAL COLLISION.
♦ INQUEST ON VICTIMS. (FBESa ASSOCIATION XZUEGSAX.) WELLINGTON, April 80. ; At an inquest into the deaths of Mr and Mrs Cook, who were killed in a collision between cars in the Ngahauranga Gorge on April 13th, evidence was given by Arthur Coffin, storeman, that his and three other cars were being driven up the gorge at about 16 miles an hour. A car driven by A. E. Storey passed him from behind at 20 miles an hour, and at the same time he saw Cook's car approaching round the bend on its left-hand side. The two cars crashed, they and his car all being abreast at the time. Cook's car crossed the road and fell into the creek. Storey was on the wrong side. He r was surprised to see the car go over the bank. He thought that all that should have resulted from the collision was a crumpled mudguard. It appeared that a glancing blow was struck. Another witness said he could not see an explanation, of the tragedy in the actual impact. Prompt braking would have avoided it. The hearing waß adjourned.
