_—_» __ DISPUTE OVER CONTROL. A BREAKAWAY MOVEMENT. [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, April 30V After a lively discussion, often . tinged with personalities and sarcastic references, and the frequent calling to order by the chairman of certain speakers on a motion to break away from the present controlling body, the N.Z.A.A.A. at the annual meeting of the Port Nicholson Amataur Boad Cycling Olnb last evening, there was a scuffle ont- j side the meeting room when an effort was ] made to take the booke from the late act- J ing-secretary who, with others not in favour ( of the motion, had withdrawn to hold a meeting of their own in another room. The i secretary, however, with the support of others, managed to retain. possession of, the •books, and the two meetings proceeded. For some time past, ever since a proposal was received from Auckland suggesting an alteration in the present control, a section of the Port Nicholson Club has been working in support of that objective, their efforts culminating in the notice of motion before the annnal meeting of the dab last evening. At the outset a question was raisea whether Mr A. White, the acting assistantsecretary, was to be regarded aa a suspended member in spite of the Wellington Amateur Athletic's Centre's decision to that effeot, but the chairman (Mr J. 6. Stalker), after Mr White had produced a letter received front' the Centre, allowed him to take part In the meeting. » Another question followed as to whether fee four members suspended by the Centre

on Monday evening were eligible to vote, and the ruling after discussion waa that they were not. There was then considerable discussion on the question whether new memben should not be elected and have an opportunity to vote before the motion was gat to the meeting. On thia point Mr L Sobs, formerly of Wangannl, waa emphatic that they should not have the right to rote. Mr 8. Wright: I have nevar heard . of such a thing before. I think it is a trick. i There waa general laughter at thia remark, and protests that there waa aide* tracking and that the whole business waa rotten, the chairman having to call several 'members to order. ' A motion moved by Mr B. Evans that the ehairman ahould vacate the chair, waa lost. I Mr Stalker then decided to accept the new members who had been nominated, and about twenty were eleeted. ' Mr Evans said he would like to move 1 again the motion that Mr Stalker should ( leave the chair. • .' ' «. , 'Mr Stalker: I am not going to take the motion. Mr Evans: I am going to fight for my rights just the same a* 700 **e. 1 Discission then reverted to the notice of motion. Mr R. Evans said that the principal objoc(Uon was that whatever they did the N.Z.A A.A. retained the right to veto pro- , posait brought down by the Cycling Com- ' mitteea. , „ _ _ ; After some further discussion Mr B. D. Bennett, patron of the club, addressed the meeting. The whple problem, he aaid, now . seemed to reduce • itaelf as to-who the Board , of Control should be, and what constitution it , should take. , Mr Q. S. Bright (the acting-secretary) *»*■ ! gested that the two main questions were:— (J) Why were the ..cyclists desirous of , leaving the N.Z.A.A.A.!
