When the owners of motor vehicles renew their licenses . this year they will be asked to supply < as far as may be possible information regarding the mileages run by their vehicles. (a) During the year ended April 30th, and (b) During the life of the vehicle. This information, which from one aspect may be regarded as the quantitative measure of motor transport activity, is being by the • Transport Department. It will be used, in, conjunction with other statistical data in shedding light on the ramifications of motor transport in the Dominion, and will constitute, one of the threads out of which an attempt will be made to weave what for want of a better term may be called a road transport balancesheet. In making an announcement to this effect the Minister for Transport (the Hon. W. A. Veitcta) says that every effort has been made to confine the information to what will be within the knowledge of every motorist, and that the information is being sought in the manner that will cause the minimum trouble to those furnishing it. "The Government hopes," said Mr Veiteh, "that the motoring public will realise that the figures which are being sought on a purely voluntary basis are essential if the transport problem is to be j fuljy understood, and I feel sure that | motorists will accord the Department j every assistance possible,"
