DOMAIN FETE.
RELIEF OF UNEMPLOYMENT RETURNED SOLDIERS TO BENEFIT. Arrangements have been completed foiv.tbe fete which is.to be held this afternoon in the Botanic Gardens, and a very attractive programme has been provided. The fete'is being held by the Domains Board, in conjunction with the • : R«Jtuni?d Soldiers' Association, and the object is •to obtain funds to relieve unemployment amongst returned * sojdters,-preference to be given to married men, with families. The work %proposed A to be done is to be of a permanent character, and will con-sist-of-the construction of paths for walking and . cycling (but not for motor traffic) in the North Park. This., work willt, provide occupation for the men during the' winter months. The fete is to start at 1 p.m., and will last, till dark.; Mr H. Sweney has been appointed marshal and will have the arrangements in connexion with ; the programme under his control. Six bands—the Caledonian Society's Pipe Band, the Scottish Society's Pipe Band, the Boys' High School Band, the St. Andrew's College Pipe Band, the Woolston Band, and the Band of the First Canterbury Infantry Regiment—will be in attendance. The St. Andrew's College Pipe Band will escort the Girl Guides from. Cathedral square to the Gardens; the Boys' High School Band will march- from Riccnrton, and the ptljer ', bands will play through the streets, en route to the Gardens. ~ The programme is a varied one. A display, of'dancing Will'he given under the control of: Mrs J. Hulme, the Girl Guides : will give a display, there will be a Highland dancing competition, and there' will be a number of attractions in tents, including an afternoon- tea- tent.- - - •
