RAILWAY TRAFFIC.
MANY SPECIAL TRAINS! Easter this year was not quite as busy a time for the Railway Department as it was last year, as far as Christchurch is concerned. There was, however, quite a largo number of travellers and the various express and special trains were well patronised. The express to Invercargill on Monday carried 460 passengers, the Dunedin express 900, and the relief train 200, while the Coast train carried another 300. The train which left Christchurch for Dunedin on Monday evening carried 600. When the Invercargill express left Christchurch yesterday morning it carried 550 passengers, and there was another 850 on. the Dunedin express, while the relief train also carried 800. There were 400 passengers on the train for the West Coast. Other excursions were also well patronised," and Lyttelton trains on Monday carried 1639 passengers.' The traffic on the ChristchurchAkaroa road on Monday was a record, and accommodation at Akaroa was severely taxed. Altogether there were 14 service cars and buses on the Akaroa road. Between 800 and 900 people were on board the ferry steamer Wahine when she berthed at Lyttelton yesterday morning, _ while the previous evening the Maori took about 700 passengers to Wellington.
