PERSONAL. j (3PEC3AL TO THE FEESS.) GEEYMOUTH, March 31. The Eev. S. J. Webb and Mrs Webb were entertained by the congregation of Knox Church, Eeefton, and were the recipients of farewell gifts. Mr Webb left to-day for his new church at Springburn. Mrs Webb will follow him to-morrow. Members of the staff of C. Smith, Ltd., on Saturday, presented Miss Iris Boddy who, after six years' service, is leaving to be married, with a xylonite set. The firm presented her with a travelling rug. Miss Gladys Sumner has returned to Christchurch after spending a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs B. Sumner, of Paroa. During the afternoon tea interval at a cricket match, Mr A. Jamieson, who was recently married, was presented by Mr L. F. Casey, on behalf of the cricketers, with a salad bowl. Mr K. E. Sweetman left this morning for Christchurch on holiday. News was received on Saturday evening at Hokitika of the death, at Christchurch, of Mr Alfred Stapleton, He was the fourth son of Mrs Stapleton, of Hokitika, and was a native of that town. Mr W. T. Morpeth, Commissioner of Crown Lands at Hokitika, retired from the service to-day, after a long career as a public servant. Boxing. The executive of the West Coaßt Boxing Association has entered into negotiations with Donovan and Sarron for a match in Greymouth, after the next meeting of the pair in either Dunedin or Auckland. League Football. At the annual meeting of the Marist Kugby League Club the election of officers resulted:—Patron, Eev. Father I Holahan; president, W. Gieseking; secretary, C. Eose; treasurer, E. Williams; executive, M. Kiely, M. Buckley, T. Stapleton, E. O'Brien, L. O'Neill, C. Eestieaux, and E. Quinn. i State Collieries. I The meeting convened by the State Collieries Medical Society to hear the appeal of Dr. Meade, regarding -. his dismissal, was held at Eunanga, when about 350 were present. The. case was discussed for nearly 2 J hours, and the following motion was placed before the meeting:—"That the doctor's appeal be upheld »nd that the advertisements for another doctor bo withdrawn from the papers immediately." The voting resulted iu an overwhelming majority for tho retention of Dr. Meade. Cricket. Yesterday's cricket fixtures were played in brilliant weather. A team of married men met and defeated a team of single men by 132 runs to 89, on the first innings. For the .winners, Casey, not out 55, was the chief scorer, F. Baldwin (39) being the best scorer on the defeated side. Camerons beat Watersiders at Camerons by 7G to 64, after one strike. Magistrate's Court. A sitting of the Greymouth Magistrate's Court was held to-day, Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., presiding. Harold Henry Williams, charged with the theft of four watches, one chain, one medal, a sovereign case, and two badges, valued at £32 19s, pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to six months' hard labour in Paparua prison. On a charge of failing to maintain his five children at Auckland, John Petley was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, concurrent with the three months' imprisonment which he is now serving for false pretences. Otira TunneL The amount of coal, timber, and gen- j eral merchandise carried through the Otira tunnel for the week ended to-day was 16,394 tons, which is an increase of 9000 tons, compared with the amount handled during the corresponding period last year, when the Easter period affected traffic handled. During the week five double-deckers of lambs were railed from the West Coast to Canterbury. To-morrow's stock train will consist of 20 double-deckers of lambs and two trucks of cattle for Addington, and four double-deckers of lambs for Islington. Grey Bar. The Stewart plant has been installed on the Greymouth Harbour Board's tug and was given a trial run in the river to-day, working satisfactorily. Weather permitting, the plant will be officially tested on the Grey bar to-morrow. Tennis. Greymouth and St. Columba Tennis Club teams met yesterday in an interclub tournament, St. Columba winning by 13 sets to 11, and 167 games to 140. Monthly Statistics. During March rain fell on 13 days, a total of 3.71 inches being recorded. League Centre. The annual meeting of the West Coast League Centre was held this evening, Mr J. D. Wingham, president, occupying the chair. A notice of motion : t "That the League consider appointing a management committee to conduct the affairs of the League; in .lieu of the present delegation system," was considered. After a full discussion it was resolved that a Management Committee b r appointed to consist of six members, and the president, secretary, and treasurer, and that a full meeting of delegates be held every fourth meeting It was also decided that olubs should send one .delegate to every fourth meeting, juniors also to have representation.

The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr J. D. Wingham; secretary, Mr W. J. Larcombe; treasurer, Mr K. Harrington; auditor, Mr A. Naylor; custodian, Mr D. Hanrahan.

G. Boss was elected a life member of the West Coast League, and J. Thomas, a life member of the New Zea land League. A. W. Webster and L. Campbell were elected West Coast delegates to the New Zealand Council. It was decided that the West Coast Centre should; continue their efforts to have the disqualifications of N. Mouatt and J. Wright lifted. Cricket. It is announced that the Cobden Club is the winner of the senior competition, and also the Feary trophy; and that the Marist Club won the junior, third, and fourth grade competitions, and the Stenhouse Cup.
