"The attention of the committee has been drawn on numerous occasions to the danger which exists owing to the tog drop from the footpath to the car-riage-way in Cashel, street, between Colombo street and Oxford terrace," reported the Works Committee to the City Council last night. In some places the drop is nearly two feet. The City Engineer reinches and to reduce the height of the footpath immediately above the channel. The estimated cost of this work is £375. and as the committee is of opinion that it is an urgent matter, authority is requested to nave the work put in hand immediately. The report "•as adopted. Mr H. Worrall, secretary of the Canterbury General Labourers Union, leaves to-morrow evening tor Wellington to give evidence on behait of the Union before the committee that is enquiring into matters relating to the Workers' Compensation for Accidents Act. Amongst other matters that Mr Worrall will give evidence on are occupational diseases, and compulsory insurance.
