MOUNT ROLLESTON.
to rat sM«oa or tsi rmtss. Sir.—The charms of Arthur's Pas« are endless. Just one thing there i» a perpetuai annoyance, and that is the way visitors mispronounce the name of its most lovely mountain. During the coming winter will the leaders of the ski-ing parties on the Blimit toll them not to say "Roll-as-ton" ? It has only two syllables, and the first rhymes with "bowls." It is a shame to murder the name of one of Canterbury's most hohoured pioneers. Colonial English is funny sometimes. I rang up the nearest little town and asked for two pounds of kapoc. "To be sent by the mileman, I suppose?" "Oh no. the mailman." So it never came.—Yours, etc., „ . N.R.S. Rangier a, March 31st. 1930.
