ASHBURTON. PERSONAL. Mr C. H. N. Clarkson, of Waimatd, who has been appointed postmaster at Ashburton in succession to Mr G, Clark, arrived yesterday to take over his new duties. Hakatere Lodge. The Hakatere Lodge, No. 68, 1.0.0. F., held its fortnightly meeting, when the N.G., Bro. J. Wilkinson, presided. One transfer to Christehurch was granted, and three candidates were initiated. Final arrangements were made in connexion with the annual visit of the Washington Lodge. The election of officers resulted:—N.G., Bro. J. Nish; V.G., Bro. C. Garforth; E.S., Bro. H. C. Croquet. A match was played between the Ashburton and Allenton Croquet Clubs' C teams yesterday, resulting in a win for Ashburton by 7 games to 2. Results (Allenton names first): — Singles—Mrs Bathurst 24, Mrs Opie 26; Mrs Barr 6, Miss Watt 26; Mrs Saunders 26, Mrs Tucker 20; Mrs McLaren 12, Mrs Osman 26; Mrs Acton 8 (unfinished), Mrs A. Amos 5 (unfinished); Mrs Morgan 9, Mrs F. Buxton 26. Doubles—Mosdames Bathurst and Barr 11, Mesdames Opie and F. Buxton 26; Mesdames Saunders and McLaren 14, Mesdames Tucker and Osman 26; Mesdames Acton and Morgan 24, Miss Watt and Mrs Amos 26. RAKAIA. A meeting of the, South Rakaia Domain Board was held on Monday afternoon, the newly-appointed members meeting for the first time. There were present Messrs W. F. Magson, J. S. Connolly, G. S. Hardy, H. A. Harrison, J. McLean, and J F. Langley. Mr W. F. Magson was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. He thanked members for the honour they had done him, and welcomed Mir J. 8. Connolly to a seat on the Board. Mr G. S. Hardy was re-elected secretary and treasurer. The report showed a credit balance of £2O 2s 6d. It was decided to ask representatives of the Bowling and Tennis Clubs to meet the Board to discuss matters regarding caretaking at the Domain. At a general meeting of the Rakaia Fotobal] Club Mr C. Evison presided over a good attendance. It was decided to play matches against Southbridge on April sth, the senior match to be playea at Rakaia, and the junior game at Southbridge; and against Leeston on April 12th, when the senior team will play at Leeston, and the junior team at Rakaia. It was resolved to enter senior, junior, and third-grade teams in the Ashburton Rugby Union's competitions; and if sufficient players oflor within the next few days a fourth-griide team will also be entered. Messrs D Brown and A. Doig were appointed managers for the senior and junior teams respectively. The following were elected a Social Committee:—Messrs W. Tatterson, J. Dunstan, C. Davison, J. T. O'lteiUy, .T. Lawler, and D. Cornelius.

METHVEN. At a meeting of members of the Methven Croquet Club, Mrs H. Fryer presided over a full attendance. The secretary reported that arrangements had been made for a team from tne Dunsandel Club to visit Methven on Tuesday next to plav a return match. Arrangements were completed for the holding of the bazaar in aid of the funds of the club. Mrs John Watson gave a two-tier iced cake as a prize for a competition to be arranged. Mrs Jesse Stone was appointed to take charge of this competition. Several other donations were received. It was decided to close the season on Saturday. April 12th, when the trophies won during the year will be presented. Rain set in from the south-west late on Wednesdav afternoon and 23 points were recorded up till 9 a.m. on Thursday. There was a light coating of snow on the hill tops.
