SUAINER. A meeting of the Sumner Borough Council wo* held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr W. H. Nicholson), Cm. 0.1, Denham, F, H. R. Neville, D. F. Oldridge, ». F. Sandford, A. Holden, H. W, Harris, and J E. Tait.

Tenders for a ISh.p. motor and starter had also been submitted, and that of As"hby, Bergh and Co. for a Brooke motor at £39 15* waa recommended for acceptance. The report was adopted. The Port and City League wrote advising of a meeting on April 10th for the purpose of appointing a commission. The Mayor was apipointed the council's representative. J. Ashworth's application for membership of the Fire Brigade was approved. The Town Clerk was_ instructed to write to the members of the brigade, congratulating them on «heir performance in the reoent inter borough competitione. • _ Cr. Denham submitted a report on the library account, which ehowed that for a period of eight months up to March 11th, subscriptions amounted to 15*, other receipts bringing the total up to £31140 sd. On the expenditure side, £B7 had been spent on booke, arid with other expenses there was a credit balance of £l6 Assuming subscriptions amounted to £5 per month at least, £l2 10a should be available for the purchase of books to Juno 80th. In all, 128 books had beien purchased since the Council took over the library. . , Cr. Neville co'ntjratulated the Library committee on the state of the finances. The question of dumping rubbish on the streets was raised, and it was decided to take steps to prevent a recurrence.
