"BROADWAY SCANDALS."

SONG, DANCE AND MUSIC. ' OIVIO THEATRE ATTRACTIONS. The Columbia Corporation has excelled itself in the making of "Broadway Scandals." the picture which is being screened all l.his week at the Civic Theatre. It is a play in th© production and staging of which nothing has been spared. The plot is a small though somewhat novel one. Around it is woven song, dancing, and music in amazing proportions. The narrative is lost- sight of and ceases to be of Importance. The whirl of the dancing chorus is relieved by one patch of hearty burlesque when a mere chorus girl dares to introduce without warning to the management a comic imitation of Valesko, the leading lady and popular star. Jack Egan, who sings expertly and plaintively, and is amazing in his eccentric dances, plays the part of the hero. As the chorus girl who imitates Valeska, Pally O'Neil raises herself above her fellow-mem-bers. but also earns her dismissal. She and Jack are shown from tho time they start their act in small towns and the lesser-known theatres of New fork until the time their ambitions are realised and they become Broadway stars. They are in love, and the course of their love runs anything but Bmoothly. The obstacles are taken out of their path only when Jack, with great selfsacrifice, resigns his position as Valeska's partner. , » ._ . Carmel livers plays the part of Valeska. She is particularly mited to It with her well-known French accent and htr old-time love of vamping. The »tagi?ig 1« prodigal, the dancing clever, and the whole a production that has certainly outclassed any of its predecessor*. The supporting programme is well up to the standard of "Broadway Scandals," and includes a news picture showing the St. Louis Robin making its epic endurance flight. There is a new Mickey the Mouse cartoon en t J tied. "Mickey's, Choo Choo." It provokes roars ot laughter fro® start to finish.
