In addition, the beltman obtaining the fastest time wa» to be the cluD champion beltman and the winner of a cup presented by Mr C. J. Kite. . Tho referee was Mr W. H. ao the judgeß were Messrs W. A, Smith, G. £jBillson. and S. K. Bassctt. THE RESULTS. The results wero as follows: L. Sutherland (belt), G. Jenkia* (line), J. M. Mitchell (reel) • • •• * The beltman, L. Sutherland, swam with cxoellent judgment, awimnuna sufficiently far enough to the right of the buoy to make ui ( . of a strong current to the lett. -no registered tho best -time, 3tnin 42sec, Md is club champion beltman for 1930. rhe team gave a good exhibition, tho line work and the take-over being gooi. H J. Bailey (belt). C. J. McPhail (lino), R. Morris (reel) .. •• -- 2 Thia team also gave a very „'ood exhibition. Tho tide was some distance out when they entered the water, but to offset this advantage some powerful .breakers wete encountered. Tho beltman, H._ J. Bailey, showed groat resource and stamiiia, and iegistered the eeoond best time, 3min 55sec. The line work and smartness were especially noticeable. , _ O Wood (belt), F. J. Glackin (Une), E. Cockayne (reel) .. .• •• 8 The beltman followed the apparently correct line, but so great was the drift to the left that he was unfortunate :n having to swim against a strong current when carried too far to the left of his objective. His misfortunes were increased when, owing to a mistake, the haul-in was started before tbe subject was reached. His time of smin 9 2-ssec was good under the circumstances. N. McPhai! (belt), W Fleming (line), F. Clark (reel), equal .. * The beltman's time was smin SOsec. He was carried some distanc-i to the, left c-f the buoy, and had an unenviable task in reaching the subject. His handling of the subject was oustanding, the talje-over waß good, and in spite of being carried a great distance to the left of the reel the subject was placed on the beach in the right place. K. Lowrey (belt), L. Glover (reel), J Frengley (line), equal .. .. i This toam was the first out, and encountered some very heavy seas as well as a swim of about 200 yards. The beltman's time was smin 4lßec. As in the case of j teams entering the water later, a big drift to the left was experienced. D. M. Richardson (belt). C. E., Webster (line), N. Winter (reel). This team drew third place in the ballot and encountered an unusual number of giant • combers. The beltman's time of 6min ]7sac is probably explained by this fact. The line work and general proficiency were very good. WAIMAIRI CLUB. A meeting of the executive of the Waiinaiii Beaoh Surf Club was held in the pavilion, when there were present: Messrs W. A. Alexander (in the chair), J. Taylor. N. R. Joahnsen, J. A. Wilson. T. K. Paptrill, N. J. Suckling, and J. H. Macdonald Messrs G. W. Spenseley and J. N.
