ALEXANDER WATSON RECITALS, j The Alexander Watson recitals are undoubtedly unique among present-day entertainments. That Mr Watson has been able to kep his great hold on the public is a tribute first to hl« amazing memory, wfcicli has enabled him not only to retain hundreds of pieces of literature, but to add continually to his repertoire;, also to his beautiful voice, which time has failed to weaken. Tnen he has the grace of an experienced actor who can "live" each character he portrays. He has the dignified yet friendly ma.-tovy of an audience which makes him instantly on good terms with his hearers. Mr Watson commences his Christchurch season on Saturday next at the Radiant Hall, when ais programme includes solutions from Bnrrie s famous Btory "The Little Minister," with its quaint characterisation, laughable incidents, and stirring events. Verse and variety comprise the second part, mostly now to the Watson audiences. "The Listeners," by Walter de la Mare; "The World's Workers, "The Millionaire" and "The Actor" (Harry Graham); "Laughing Ann" (A.P.Herbert), and new selections from A. A. Milne * delightful books, "Now We Are Six" and "When We Were Very Young." On Monday night Mr Watson will give John Masefleld't thrilling narrative poem, "The Everlasting Mercy," which made a lasting impression when he gave it on an earlier tour. It is one of the most important works in the entertainer's repertoire, and with which he hat | achieved his greatest artistic success. Mis* celianeouß selections comprise the second part of the recital. Full programmes for the first four recitals may be obtained from The Bristol. Box plans open for the first six recitals at The Bristol on Wednesday next. A matinee recital will be given on Wednesday, February 26th; .no evening recital will be given on that date.
