LAST NIGHT'S MEETING. 'lhe Chvistehurch Fire Board met last night, Mr E. H. Andrews presiding. Others present were Messrs K. W. Robinson, H. R. Rusbridge, E. Parlane, and T. H. Butterfield. The statement of receipts and payments showed a balance of £3782 14s 4d. The council of the United Burgesses' Association wrote asking for a oetter system of lighting tire alarms at night. " The matter was referred to the Superintendent for a report. The Superintendent reported that, in pursuance of instructions, an inspecthe Fendalton Riding was made for the purpose of viewing the most suitable localities where underground tanks might be placed, so that the brigade could work therefrom in case of fire., The following positions were suggested : Jeffrey's and Bryndwr roads' intersection, Burnside road and new street, Chilcolm street and Hamilton avenue. The Superintendent recommended that the Waimairi Council should be asked to install an underground tank about two chains north of the Cross street intersection, in Torrens road, Hillmorten, also one tank at the corner of Hiiiau and Puriri streets, in the Fen-dalton-cum-Riccarton area. In the latter case it would be necessary for the tvyo local bodies to co-operate. The capacity of the tanks should not be less than 10,000 gallons each, with a three-inch well and "shut off" valve for the brigade to operate accordingly. It was decided that a copy of the report and the preceding report should be sent to the Underwriters' Association and'the Waimairi County Council.
