The manager reports as follows under date January 27th:— In the slopes on the Stockwood reef, above the 400 ft level, a few pieces of picked stone have been selected, and strong blotches of gold seen through the quart?, broken over the place where last week's gold was got. Driving on what is probably the, Venus reef, towards where it should junction with the Stockwood reef, is in 13ft. Tlio reef oeing driven on is about 2ft in width, composed of vuggy quartz with dark mineral on tne faces of the crystals. Indications for gold are very favourable. At the new 500 ft level the crosscut towards the Union Beach shaft has been advanced 10ft, and the crosscut in the opposite direction, where Legge's reef should be, is in 3f t- The country rock here is similar to that where the gold was Rot at the sea ward cud of the 400 ft level. The compressed air-pine line, which was badly displaced when lowering the drawlift. is beine straightened up. and will be completed in a day or two when the rock drill will bo started.
