AFFAIRS OF PORT CHALMERS TOBACCONIST.

DUIsEDIN, January 81. "There are none of the usual preliminaries to go through because the bankrupt is not present, and apparently nobody knows where he is," said the Official' Assignee (Mr J. M. Adam) this afternoon to a meeting of the creditors of George Todd, tobacconist, Port Chalmers. The creditors known of were: Snrgood, Son, and Ewen, £9 18« 9d; P. Hayman and Co., £164 10s sd; Ring, Harris and Co., £96 18e 6d; Mutual Assurance Co., £3 Is 5d : Fairbairn, Wright, £2 Is 6d; Mrs Todd (under agreement;, £52. It was stated that Messrs Bing, Harris and Co. had a small security on a motor-car, which was not worth much. There was a cash balance of £SO 10s 6d in the bank, plus a small amount lodged by the man managing the shop since Todd left. Apparently he also had a £25 bond in Perpetunl Forests, Ltd. After the creditors had discussed the position, it was decided to advertise for tenders for the business as a going concern It was also decided that the Assignee should enrry on the business at his discretion with the object of finding a buyer; failing a sale within six months, the business to be wound up.
