DRAINAGE SYSTEM FOR RANGIORA.
A TENDER ACCEPTED.
A special meeting of the Rangiora Borough Council was held last evening to consider tenders for the Rangiora sewage The Mayor, Mr C. S. Aycrs, and all the Councillors were present. The engineer, Mr W. Stevens, was also present. For tho sewage contract, eleven tenders were received, and for the treatment work there were six tenders. For tho original scheme prepared by Mr Fletcher Roberts, Dunedin, the estimate was £2o,018; for the new scheme submitted by tho Borough Fngincer (taking the sewage through the backyards of properties. instead of through the main streets) the estimate was for sewage £17,943 ss, and for treatment work £3763 12s 6d. The tender of Mr Allan Moore, Christchurch, was accepted, the tender being, for tho sewage £10,190 8s lid. and for the treatment work £2OoG. Tho Council did not consider the lowest tender as it was about £3OOO below the engineer's cost. The tenders ranged up to £21.198 for the sewage and £4883 for tho treatment work. The loin carried for the work was for £28,300. The estimated cost of the new- svstem is £21.350, a difference of CT/J3O. A motion was passed that tho successful tenderer bo called upon to sign the contract within eeven days of being notified. The contract is to be finished within 10 months of signing. Tt wa« decided that the Finance Committee take steps to obtain authority to use the balance of the loan money, nliout £7OOO. for lending to persons requiring financial assistance in making their sanitary connexions. Tt was nko decided that the Sanitary Committee go into the question of the working of the block system in installing bo.ise connexions.
