Though a Greek island of only about 10,000 inhabitants, Ithaca, the home port of a Greek vessel at present in New Zealand waters, seems to have sent thousands of emigrants to all quarters of the world, including New £ealand. There are 400 or 500 from nis home town in Sydney, said the master of the vessel at New Plymouth last week, and hundreds in the other Australian cities. He had met man.v in New Zealand, too. and there was tiT* ° ne ! n ew Plymouth Perhaps tnat explained why he did not appear so very homesick, as he explained that ms ship saw its home port less than once m five years, ana that he had come to regard some English ports more as home porta than his own native Ithaca.
