♦ —. SLOW COLLECTION. This is the time of year when ratepayors are being reminded of the approach of the period when the additional charge of ten per e#nt. is added to rates not. paid "at the expiration of six months and fourteen days from the demand thereof." Many City ratepayer* evidently are not running the rink of being taught napping, and every day see* a certain amount, of the ratea outstanding collected. On enquiry from Mr J. K. Mucdonald, the City Kate Collector, on Saturday, ii was ascertained that the total levied of £3.i3,968 15s 9d, the sum of £52,: m 14s 6d has been paid, leaving £303,637 U3d outstanding. On the correspond ing date last year of the £MB,rißrt 15a lid levied, there had been eolWud £51,440 12» 9d, leaving £192,146 3s 2d outstanding. In viaw of the greater amount levied in 192950 aa compared with 1028-20, the potition this year is not so good as regards the amount paid u it was twelvt months ago.
