THE NEW YEAR.
~+ CELEBRATIONS IN LONDON. (TJNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION-BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received January Ist, 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, January 1. Loudon welcomed the New Year in the heartiest fashion. In spite of the great extension of facilities for indoor celebrations, immense crowds concentrated at Trafalgar square, Piccadilly Circus, and St. Paul's Cathedral, where old-time features of hot roast chestnuts, balloons, paper hats, singing, dancing, and cheering prevailed. The newspapers, while glad to be rid of the old year, seem unenthusiastic about the prospects of the new.
