PINES BEACH GALA.
Th« Kaiapoi Pines Beach Association's Gala was continued yesterday, and favoured with ideal weather was a great success. Motor-cars arrived from every direction and some hundreds were parked under the trees adjoining the sports ground. Free transport was provided by the Association for visitors arriving by train and local patrons, and about 900 people were carried by this means. It was estimated that about 4000 people were present in the afternoon, and all appeared to be enjoying themselves. Many modern devices to .raise money were operated with energy, and they met with a large measure of success. All money raised will be spent on improvements to the grounds. A troupe of nigger minstrels added to the fun of the gathering. Children's sports were held and there was also a short programme for adults. Results: Girls, 4 to s—Kathleen Hogan 1.
