"FATHERS" OF PARLIAMENTS.
T. P. O'CONNOR AND MR WILFORD. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.^ LONDON, November 21. In his latest contribution to the "Sunday Times," headed "Men, Women, and Memories," the Rt. Hon. T. P. O'Connor had the accompanying reference to Mr T. M. Wilford, written three davs before Mr O'Connor's death: —
"One day I was approached in the House of Commons by a handsome, kindly-looking man, a little beyond middle-age, and the friend who brought us together said that it was a joy to him that the 'Father of the New Zealand Parliament' should have the honour of being introduced to the 'Father of the Mother of Parliaments.' Mr Wilford is a man whom to meet is immediately to like, for his open, jolly face and his pleasant manners make him an immediate and an acceptable acquaintance. And now he is not merely the 'Father' of that notable Assembly in New Zealand, but also a comrade of mine, for he comes to London next January as High Commissioner for his country. I shall be glad to meet him again, especially as he is a warm friend of Sir Joseph Ward, who is also an old friend of mine. Sir Joseph Ward had his vicissitudes, including many ups and downs of Parliamentary fortune, hut he is still quite young, and I hope will soon recover from his present illness and be ready for the fray again."
