CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIPS. YESTERDAY'S PLAY. Tho Canterbury Croquet Association's , Christmas tournament was commenced yesterday on the United Club's lawns, in fine weather. la the Izard Memorial Doubles Mrs Scandrett and Mrs Rinaldi proved too steady for Mrs Oxley and V. 51. Tyers. There was some close play in some of the junior games, and there were several good contests. The tournament will probably last till Tuesday. Results:— IZARD MEMORIAL DOUBLES. First Round. Mrs Scandrett and Mrs Rinaldi beat Mrs Hadfield and Mrs Palmer 26-20. Second Round. Mrs O.xley and W. M. Tyers beat Mrs G. Williamson snd Mrs H. Smith 26-23. Mrs Scandrett and Mrs Rinaldi beat Miss Gerard and Mrs Smithson 26-6. Mrs Maddren and Mrs Tyers beat Mrs Cowper and Miss Brann 26-14. Mrs Beanland and Mrs McCullough beat Mrs Freeman and P. R. Holmes 26-18. Semi-final Mrs Scandrett and Mrs Rinaldi beat Mrs Oxley and W. M. Tyers 26-10. A LEVEL SINGLES. First Round. Mrs McOuliongh beat Mrs Hadfield 26-19. Second Round.
