HUNTSBURY WATER SUPPLY.

INSTALLATION OFFERED TO COUNTY. There is prospect of ail early settlement of the recent trouble regarding the Huntsbury water supply. Mr Ronald S. Badger, a member of the Huntsbury Syndicate, told a reporter yesterday, that, in view of the increasing demand that public utilities should be controlled by local authorities, the Syndicate had offered to hand over its water supply installation to the Heathcote County Council, subject to certain conditions. One of these is that the Syndicate will waive any right it has to a refund in respeet of the amount it paid towards the laying of the 3-inch main from the end of Colombo street to the foot of the Huntsbury Hill. The arrangement made at the time was that if any intervening subdivision on the hills utilised the 3-inch main, the Syndicate should receive a proportionate refund of the £356 paid by it. In return for the Syndicate waiving its claim to this refund it has asked the County Council to spend a similar amount on the improvement of Huntsbury avenue. The syndicate has offered to hand over its water supply installation, which cost over £2OOO, to the county to carry it on for the benefit of the district. A letter from the Syndicate, embodying these proposals, has been sent to the County Council and will come up for consideration at its first meeting in the Xew Tear.
