FOR THE POOR.
ROTARY CLUB'S CHRISTMAS EFFORTS. STREET COLLECTION TO-MORROW. An appeal worthy of the consideration and extensive support of the Christehurch public is being made tomorrow and on Sunday by the Christchurch Rotary Club. To-morrow there will be a street collection to provide funds to supply a week's rations, consisting of groceries, meat, and bread to the poor families in Christehurch, and also to assist the orphans. Lists of very deserving cases have been prepared and have been thoroughly investigated and vouched for by some of the leading social workers in the City, including Mrs T. Green, of the Hospital Board, Nurse Maude, and the Rev. P. Revell, City Missioner. Over 300 families have been selected, each one of which is a touching example of poverty and hardship, and it is stated that the number of people in need of Christmas cheer is astonishingly largo Members of the Rotary Club themselves will undertake tho delivery of the hampers. To-morrow the headquarters will be situated in a tent in the Cathedral grounds and the busier street corners will be paraded by an army of collectors who will appeal to passers-by for contributions towards this worthy cause. Cheques and donations of cash will be thankfully received by Mr Denys Hoare, the secretary or the Rotary Club, Hereford street. On Sunday four of our leading bands—Derry's, Woolston, Municipal, and Battalion—will present > a programme in the Hospital grounds and Christmas carols will be sung by the Royal Christehurch Musical Society.
