St. Mark's Ladies' Guild cntcrtainetr the Sunday School children at the Vicarage, at the same time farewelling the Sunday School superintendent, Miss J. E. C. Hope, who is leaving for England. Mrs Smale presented the Sunday School prizes, each child receiving a book. During the afternoon. Master Hay Carson presented Miss Hope with a solid leather attache case and a photograph album, as a of esteem from the Sunday School pupils. Mrs Jamieson, president of the Ladies' Guild, expressed regret at Miss Hope's departure, wished her bon voyage, and asked her to accept a box of linen handkerchiefs as a small token of remembrance from the Guild members. The Rev. E. B. Moore also spoke of Miss Hope's good ivork for St. Mark's during her residence in Rotherham, and wished her God->peed. a About ninety people, adults and children, availed themselves of the School Committee's excursion to Christchurch. A pleasant time was spent by all. At the Sch<>ol Committee's social, held on Saurday evening, there was a moderate attendance. Competitions were won by Mrs Pile and Mr G, Daniel son. On Saturday the Rotherham cricket team journeyed to Waikari, and were defeated by Waikari East. Waikari East made 70 for five wickets (declared). and Rotherha m 59. MoEarlane and Tnkster batted best for Waikari, and Ron. Halkett, Parker, M allipson, and Tritt for Rotherham. The best bowlers were McFarlane. McAdam, and Tucker for Waikari. and Rachelor. Mnllieson, and Reg. Halkett for Rotherham. A light shook of earthquake was felt on Sunday night.
