PERSECUTION IN RUSSIA.
ORGANISATION OF PROTEST COMMITTEE. (L'XITED PBESS ASSOCIATIOX BT ELECTXIC TELEGRAPH— COrvaiOHT.} (Received December loth, 0.0 p.m.) LONDON, December 14. The Archbishop of Canterbury, in a letter to Prebendary Cough, declining the presidency of the Protest Committee regarding religious persecution in Russia on the ground that his own position was one of peculiar difficulty and responsibility, says that he shares in the fullest measure in the detestation of the anti-religions policy of the Soviet and the indignation so justly aroused against the persecution of all who profess any form of religion in Russia. Tho Bishop of London, in a letter, states: "I am in favour of the Ambassador going to Russia as the only way of letting daylight into that country, but I consider that continued relations should be conditional on the cessation of the tnasa.scre of Christians and the proscription of erligion. T will remain on the committee only as long as the movement is religious, and is not used for political purposes."
