CITY COUNCIL.
BUSINESS FOR TO-MORROW'S MEETING. Owing to the celebration to-day of Anniversary Day, the meeting of the City Council, which, in the ordinary course, would have been held to-night, is to be held to-morrow night. Included in the matters to be dealt with are two notices of motion dealing w-th important matters. Dr. Thacker's notice of motion urging the acquisition of the land bounded by Victoria, Kilmore, and Colombo streets, and Cambridge terrace for the purposes of a Hall, is down for cousidcra tion. The other notice of motion has been given by Cr. E. Parlane, chairman of the Town PLinuing, Housing, and Health Committee, and is in the following terms:—"That the resolution passed by the Council on J)ecfimber 2nd, authorising the building of a six-storev block of flats at the con;er of Hereford and Montreal streets be rescinded." Other matters d"wn for consideration include the following:— Improvements to the City Abattoir, and tenders for slaughtering stock thereat. Consideration will be gi.tn to an application from the picture theatres for permission to screen pictures on Christmas Day and evening. Reduction in number of motor cabs which may stand in Cashel street. Resolution to be adopted imposing 10 per cent, penalty on overdue rates. Fees for registration of dogs for IP3O to be fixed. Acquisition of further land in Stanmore road for street widening purposes. Several remits which it is proposed to forward to the Municipal Conference will be submitted for consideration. Application for erection of residential shops on corner of Gloucester street and Woodham road. Question of exemption of Graham and Portman streets. Woolston, and Green's War from the provisions of Section 128 'of the Public Works Act. Subdivision of property, corner of Athelstan and Barrinerton streets into sections of less than 20 perches. Consideration of new street between Gloucester street and Armagh street. The recommendation of the Works Committee with regard to the undertaking of any further permanent surfacing of ronds under the roads loan. Tenders for the following will be considered :—Galvanised pipe, marlin. storage battery, motor generator set. aerial cable, weather-proof tane. transformer oil. two sub-station buildings, 11,000 volts switch-gear, and purchase of test instruments.
