BRITISH CARS.
PRICE IN NEW ZEALAND. (FBOSt OTTB OW» COBBESPONDBSI.) LONDON, October 24. Mr E. Roffe Thompson, writing in "John Bull" on Empire trade, especially -with regard to motor-cars, says: "If a British car arrives in New Zealand, it mysteriously becomes £IOO dearer thaii it is here, over and above all the duty that has to be- paid on it. "And why, just because our methods of taxation at Home force our manufacturers to concentrate on cars of low horse-power, should we try to sell these cars abroad? They don't want them. They want cars of twenty or thirty horse-power that will stand up to gruelling work. "Yet no one, not even Sir William Morris, has had the pluck to make such cars by the thousand and launch them overseas at a competitive price. "You can search the newspapers of India, Australia, Austria, Germany, and the South American States, but you will search in vain for the fullpage advertisements of British cars omit specifically for the requirements of overseas customers. You will be lucky if you find any advertisements at all—except American ones."
