PERSONAL. (SPICIAL TO TOM SMSS.) GUEYMOUTH, December 13. Miss M. Boddy left yesterday «m holiday to Christchureh. Mrs P. J. McCarthy, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs D. James, returned yesterday to Auckland. Mrs J. Kennedy left yesterday oa a visit to her daughter at Hastings. Mr H. Miller left yesterday on transfer to the Magistrate's Court, at Dunedin. Mr H. G. Davis, Chief Postmaster at Greymouth, has received notice of his transfer to Nelson. Mr C. Fleming, of the National Bank, Christcburch, is visiting Greymouth. Mr G. Sheldon, railway stationmaster at Waimabaka, has been transferred to Ngahere. Mr J. Jobberns, of the Greymouth railway goodsheds' staff, has received notice of his transfer to Christchureh. He will be succeeded by Mr D. W. Mellor, stationmaster at Cust. Mr Frank Mulrooney, who left on transfer to Balclutha yesterday, Avas presented by the Greymouth shunters' staff with a gold watch. Mr J. Molloy, who leaves on transfer to the Chief Post Office, Christcburch, to-morrow, was entertained by the Post Office staff on Friday evening, and presented with a dinner set. Obituary. The death occurred at the Grey Hospital yesterday afternoon, of Mr Michael Kelly, who, for the past half century, has been a resident on the West Coast. Mr Kelly has been two months in hospital. He was 67 years of age, single, and a native of Lanateen, County Donegal, Ireland, arriving in Dunedin in 1874. He spent five years mining there and then came on to the West Coast. He is survived by one sister, Mrs M. Heaphy, of Greymouth. The death occurred on Friday night, of Mr Nils Persson Backman, of Blaketown. Mr Backman was a native of Sweden and 67 years of age. He had been in New Zealand for 23 years. He is survived by his widow. School Excursion. A railway excursion was run from Darfield, Whitecliffs, and Glentunnel yesterday to Greymouth, eight hundred and fifty school children and their parents making the trip. The train arrived at noon, and returned about 5 p.m., the day being spent at Victoria Park, end in viewing the suburbs of Greymouth. Mill Worker Injured. ' Mr A. Galbraitb, while wo~king at the Forest Mill at Nelson Creek, on Fridav, with another worker, while unload'rails from a truck, was injured. One rati rolled over on to his arm, tearing the flesh. He was taken to the Grey Hospital, when it was found necessary to put several stitches in the wound. He was able to return to his home. iAke Mahinapua. ■ Mr J. M- Samson, Assistant Engineer to the Public Works Department ins-pr.'ted Lake Mahinapua, wit a a view to arranging for the expendi tu-e of the tourist vote, obtained on the application of the Westland Acclimatisation Society. The work to be earned out will rnclude the erection of. 40ft jetty m deep water at Shanghai Point, and the construction of * six chain approach

Yesterday, the Greymonth and Hokitika Lawn Tennis Club teams played a men's and ladies' singles match, aa 4 combined and men "a doubles.
