N.Z. POTATOES.
AUSTRALIAN EMBARGO TO REMAIN. The Housewives' Association of New Booth "Wales has received a letter from the Federal Minister for Health, Mr Frank Anstey, states the "Sydney Morning Herald,"' regarding the Association's request for the removal of the embargo on the importation to Australia of New Zealand potatoes. Mr Anstev pointed out that vrhile the Importation' of New Zealand potatoes might cause a reduction in the selling price the introduction of the disease (powderv scab) which would be rendered possible owing to the impracticability of examining any but a small percentage of any consignment, the difficulties of detecting the disease, and the wide extent to which imported potatoes might be used as seed owing to the ■carcitv of local supplies, would probablv re'sult in irreparable damage to the Australian potato-growing industry. After full consideration of all the circumstances it had been decided not to make any alteration in the regulations now in force.
