BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION
. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. Appreciation of the services rendered to the Christchurch Beautifying Association by the late Dr. C. Chilton was expressed at last evening's meeting of the executive, when it was decided to approach local bodies with a view to the erection of a fountain to Dr. Chilton 's memory. Mr "R. B. Owen presided in the absence of the president, Mr Dudley Dobson. A letter was received from the Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville) stating that the six lamps which the Association had given to the City had been erected on the banks of the Avon, between the Barbadoes street and Madras street bridges, in accordance with the wishes of the donor of the new band rotunda, Mr T. J. Edmonds. If the Association objected to the position of the lamps the City Council would be prepared to have a further six placed in any other desired position oji the river bank. The president said that the Association had really achieved all that it had desired, but the position of the lamps did not meet with its full approval. It was decided to write to the City Council requesting that a further six lamps be placed on the Victoria squaro bank of the river. Before the new lamps were erected, their positions were to be approved by the Association. The matter of an illustrated booklet, to be issued by the Association, was discussed. It was resolved to write to the Public Works Engineer, thanking him for his action in saving from destruction a block of trees in Springfield road.
