FIRST AID WORK.
DISPLAY BY AMBULANCE BRIGADE. PARADE IN CRANMER SQUARE. For the first time since its inception the Christchurch division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade cave an outdoor demonstration of its work on Saturday afternoon, in conjunction with the combined annual inspection. Cranmer square was supposed to have been tbe scene of a serious accident, with twenty Boy Scout victims, and stretcher bearers were detailed to collect the casualties and place them under the trees in the shade for firstaid treatment. There they were adequately liandagod and placed in readiness for the ambulance, while nursing sisters ministered to their needs as in *a stationary hospital. One hundred and fifty officers and other ranks under Dr. F. J. Borne (assistant commissioner) took part in the parade which was inspected by Dr. Borrie and Dr. F. W. Dawson (corps surgeon I Mrs J. r-\ Studholme (commissioner to tho Girl Guides of Sew Zealand) and Miss Bromley Cocks (district Commissioner to Girl Guides) also inspected the parade. Mra Studholme expressed her pleasure at taking part in the proceedings and paid a warm tribute to the work Lady Rhodes had done in the interests of the brigade. Had Lady Rhodes lived she was to have taken part in tlie inspection. The of St. John had had a very good I Henri in her, and she felt proud in beint; called upon to do the work Lady Rhodes was to have done.
Other St. John officers present were: District Superintendent. Captain GPeek. Lady District Superintendent, Mrs Bishop; District Officer. Mr Beaconsall; Corps Superintendent, Mr T. F. S. Rudd ; Corps Surgeon, Colonel F. \V. \V. Dawson and Corps Storekeeper. Mr A. T. Hoddinott. Durina the evening a presentation was made bv the Girl Guides' Division to Miss J. "Harper (lady superintendent). Miss Harper. Mrs Price, and Miss McGlashan also received presentations from the Social Committee in ! recognition of their services. Mr J A Flesher (president of the St. John Ambulance Association) congratulated the division on its turn-out and announced that tho Association had -omploted the purchase of a property in Gloucester street as a new home for the work of the Association and the Brigade.
