PERSONAL. iSriCliA '0 TUB »MSS.I GREYMOUTH, November 24. Miss E. Oliver left yesterday on holiday to Wellington. Mr E. A. Harp. Senior Inspector of Apiaries, arrived yesterday. Mr and Mrs A. V. Oliver left yesterday by motor, via Nelson and Kaikoura. for Christehurch.

Mr J. H. Miller, of the Magistrate s Court staff at Greymouth. has received notice of transfer to Duudein. Mr and Mrs W. J. Caldwell left yesterday fur Auckland, where Mr Caldwell will attend the annual communication of the Now Z-.aland Grand Lodge of Freemasons.

-Messrs d. H. and C. August, who have been visiting Mr and Mrs H. Miller, left yesterday on their return to Otane. Hawke 's Bay. Mr D. J. Evans left yesterday to attend a meeting of the West Coast branch of the County Chambers' Institute, at Murchison. He proceeds to Wellington to attend an executive meeting of the Institute, and will return in a week to Hokitika.

Mr E. Hambleton arrived yesterday afternoon on a visit to his parents, Miami Mrs W. T. Hambleton. Mrs W. Staveley left Hokitika yesterday; for Balmoral. North Canterbury, where her husband was recently transferred by the Forestry Department. Prior to leaving Mrs Staveley was presented with a solid leather travelling case by the Hokitika Ladies' Golf Club, of which she has been captain for the past three years. She was also given several farewell evenings during last week, by her Hokitika friends. Westland County. The Westland County Council is arranging to start the expenditure this week of some of the small grants passed at the late session. The Euatapu road to Mahinapua is to be pushed on, and will be finished before the holidays; also the widening of One Mile and Arthurstown roads, where sections have to be improved. Bridges at Waitaha Lagoon and Vine Creek, Koiterangi, have also to be completed, and some further improvements carried out to Lake Kanieri road. Juvenile Court. At the Juvenile Court, Greymouth, yesterday, before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., two girls, aged 14 and 16 years, appeared on remand charged with theft at Greymouth of £3 10s od, the property of Mrs Hales, and were also charged with vagrancy. They were convicted and placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for two years. They will be sent back to Ashburton, whence they came to the W T est Coast. Bushman Injured. Whilst at work in the bush at Greenstone, Hugh Lee had the misfortune to inflict a gash in one of his feet with an axe. The injury, which is serious, will lay him up for some time. State Collieries. A slip occurred on Friday at Eewanui, the whole of the hillside coming away, blocking up the creek, and turning the water Into the workings of the Morgan West section, No. 1 mine. Rewanui State Mines. It is reported that the plans have been received for the new electrie fan to be installed at the No. 2 mine, Liverpool State colliery. Although smaller than the fan at present in use, the new installation will be more powerful. Pipe Band Contest. A Pipe Band contest was held yesterday at Greymouth, when a successful contest between six bands eventuated. The day was beautifully fine and the attendance very large, about 700 who arrived by special train from Christehurch, considerably swelling the attendance. Mr J. Erskine, of Christehurch, acted as judge of the music. The results were:— Quickstep—Christehurch Scottish 1, Christehurch Caledonian 2, Amberley 3. Test Selection—Christehurch Scottish 1, Christehurch Caledonian 2, Blackball 3. Six bands competed. In the evening a Scottish concert was held, the Christehurch train leaving on its return at 11 p.m. Motor Collision. Two privately-owned motor-cars came into violent collision on the Beefton to Greymouth Main Highway, near Omoto, yesterday, both being damaged and unable to proceed on their own power. The Traffic Inspector had them moved from their position, where they were blocking the traffic.
