Gregory and the Misses Edith, Olive, and Freda Gregory, who are leaving to take up their residence in Ashburton. Mr Gregory and family had many friends in the district of Doric, Pendarves, Wakanui, and Seavicw, so that the gathering was unusually large. The schoolroom was decorated with pink and gold streamers, interspersed with greenery and bowls of flowers. The chair was occupied by Mr A. Bcnnison, who said that the whole district regretted the loss of Mr and Mrs Gregory, residents rn that district for over 30 years. Mr J. Watson referred to the good work done by Mr Gregory as a member of the School Committee, which position he held for 27 years, and also as member of the Wakanui Road Board. Mr Frampton (Wakanui) said he had known Mr Gregory for many years, both as a good neighbour and a successful farmer. He also spoke of th'j excellent work done by Mr Gregory as a member of the Boad Board. Mr F. Johnson referred to the interest always taken by Mr Gregory in matters affecting the district, and to the help he had given as an energetic member of the local branch of the Farmers' Union. It was pleasant to know that his future years would be spent under congenial circumstances. Several other speakers also paid tributes to Mr and Mrs Gregory. Mr Bennison then presented Mr Gregory with a set of bowls from his many friends, and Mrs J. W. Watson presented Mrs Gregory with a case of fish knives and forks and servers and a silver entree dish as a memento of the pleasant years she had spent in the district. Mr R. Bavnes, on hphalf of the Seafield Rifle Club, presented Mr Gregory with an oak chiming clock. Mr Baynes spoke of the great interest Mr Gregory had always taken in the Rifle Club, of which he was the president. He had also been a member since its inauguration, and had given the land on which the range was erected. Miss Edith Gregory, who had been secretary of the Tennis Club and who had acted as sewing mistress this year at the local school, was presented by Mr F. Johnson with an antique brass fruit basket, while the Misses Olive and Freda Gregory were presented with fountain pens. Miss Mary Bennison, on behalf of the girls who had received music lessons from Miss Edith Gregory, presented her with a crystal vase. Mrs J. W. Watson then welcomed Mrs J. Gregory to the district, and presented her with a beatenbrass tea-tray. Mr Jas. Lainbie, on behalf of the Pendarves district, also welcomed Mrs J. Gregory. Mr Gregory thanked all for the handsome presents and for the .way he and his family had been honoured that evening. Supper was served and the remainder of the evening was spent in music and dancing. Songs were sung by Miss M. Bennison and a pianoforte solo played by Miss Hetty Johnson. Mr N. Dew and Mr A. Bennison acted as M.C.'s. The music was supplied by Mrs Mitchell's band, and extras played by Miss Bennison.
