CAR CAPSIZES.
SMALL BOY BADLY INJURED. A five-seatcr motor-car driven hy Mr W. L. Pidgeon, of Okain's Bay, got out of control on a patch of shingle between Duvauehelle and Ofcain's Bay late on Friday afternoon last. , It climbed the bank .ivh! turnod over on its side, injuring ull the passengers to a greater or less decree. I>esinoud John Pidgeon. aged three and a halt years, a son of the driver, was very badly injured when the car pinned him down. He was taken to the Christchurch Hospital suffering from .severe abrasion* on the head and a badly injured hand. Two of the ringers were cut off, and there is little chance of saving the thumb. He was extricated by lifting the car from over him, and was bleeding profusely when released. His cond:tion wis still serious at the Hospital last night, but he was reported to be improving. The occupants of the car were Mr and Mrs W. L. Pidgeon. Mr Lester Hartley, a brother of Mrs Pidgeon, nnd the three children of Mr and Mrs Pidgeon. Only slight abrasions and shock were sustained bv the two other children, while Mr Pidgeon sustained a cut wl'ile breaking the v-indows to extricate his passengers. Mrs Pidgeon suffered badly from shock, and a stocking was burned off by acid from the battery, it is thought. Mr Lester Hartley was bruised slightly, but escaped otherwise. Mr Pidgeon abandoned the car immediately "after the accident. The car was insured for £2OO in the Royal Insurance Office.
