OBITUARY.
MR H. S. COLE. The death has occurred at Dunedin of Mr Herbert Sydney Cole, after an illness that had laid him aside since Eas-ter. He was Melbourne born and bred, the son of au Anglican clergyman, and was engaged in 1593 by Mr James Wilson, then manager of Bing, Harris, and Company's Dunedin house, u> take up a position there—an en- [ gagement; that terminated only with his death. He was at first one of the firm's travellers, but for the past twenty-five years or thereabouts he held the position of the firm's permanent representative at Oamaru, "J* 1 - mate, and Timaru. having an office in each of those towns, and returning to his home in Dunedin for the weekend*. Bv his fellow-warehousemen, .Mr Cole was held in the highest respect. He ros- to executive rank in the Commercial Travellers' Club. Bowlers al>o knew him well, for he was a match skip in the St. Clair Bowling Club, and retained his form up to last season. His name is enrolled m the club's pavilion as singles champion -and as president: Mrs Cole survives her husband, with three daughtersMrs D. S. Buchanan (Dunedin), Mrs V. Harcreaves tChristchurch), and Mrs J. Bradley (Dunedin).
