DUSOLINA GIANNINI.
FIRST CONCERT TO-NIGHT. This evening at the Ca!e<lonian Hall, the world-famous dramatic soprano, Signorina Dusolina Giannini, will make her bow to a Chnatcnurch audience. Much is expected of this singer, who has in the space of a fow years, won an unrivalled position in the musical estimation of European and American audiences. In the first flush of her triumphs ahe has been brought to Sew Zealand whilst Europe and America are claincunng for her. Giannini was to have sung at Covent Garden Opera thi3 year, but a contract made by Mr E. J. Gravestock two years ago prevented her from accepting the tempting offer. Her talents have been lauded by critics in the older world; Australian and Xew Zealand critics have supplemented theee eulogies. The Melbourne "Age" describing her debut in that city, says: "Of Dusolina Giannini much was predicted and much verified. A wonderfully pure voice, richly coloured, ample in range, is her first noteworthy possession. Experience in high placf* may help to carry off an ephemeral public success, but only the gifts of a quick pontic impulse, a balanced intellect, and an aspiring spirit enable an artist fo maintain a place of supreme honour in tho world of art. Dusolina Giannini has • wended to the ranks of the limited heirarchy of ruling spirits by right of her natural endowments and her conquering mind. But even were #h6 not the famous artist we know her to be, it was evident that Giannini would win for herae'f a favoured place in musical Melbourne's heart for her unusually captivating disposition and unaffected manner." To-night's programme includes: "Ah, Spietato" from the.'little known opera "Amidigi" by Handel, '0 del mio amato ben" (Ponaudyi. "Xon so piu" from "The Marriage of Figaro" iMorart). "Vissi d'Arte" fToscal. "Invocation" (Kramer). "When I .Love Ton" (Colei, "Before the Crucifix" (La t'or?c\ nnd "Joy" (Gaul), and a group of Italian and Spanish folk eonga, which are a great featura of the Giannini concerts. Mr Sol Deutsch. the young American violinist, will play solos, and Miss Molly Bernstein will be the accompanist. The box plans and day sale* are at TTie Bri"tol. The second concert will be given on Saturday.
