SCHOOL BUILDINGS.
The schools in the Chatham Islands are now receding attention. Kaingaroa is to hare a new school altogether, and additions are being made to the school and residence *t Awanga. Painting and other repairs will be carried out at the other schools. The Education Board has received a grant for a small addition to the Lauriston School. A start was made with the new building for the West Christcliurch School vcsterday morning. The building is to be of the open-air block type, and the work is being done by the Board s staff. The steel windows are to be ordered yet, and the woodwork is to come to hand. A new room is to be built for the Mackenzie School and also for the Eiffelton School. A teachers residence is to be built at Woodfnd. The material is now on order for eight open-air class-rooms at the Kaiapoi School. A well is to be sunk any day, and a start will be made as soon as water is available —which will be within a week or a fortnight.
