Palgety. claimed the great Martian as her sire, ! and was from Nantes by Stopniak, from ! Hogenot, by Apremont. Marsa won good races for Mr Dalgety under thI guidance of G. Murray Aynsley, and i after b«>ing sold to go south, she did further good service for her new owner. When she finished racing she was acquired by Messrs Kain Bros., who raced one of her progeny, Full Swing, with mueh suecess until she unfortunately failed to stand training. Marsa failed to produce in 1921. 1923, and 1924. Her 192S yearling, by Solferino, now known as Solaar, was sold for 425 guineas, and last year's youngster, a filly by the same horse, was purchased at Trentham by Mr A. W. Douglass, for 4«5 guineas. Nightmareh was the sixteenth four-year-old to win the Melbourne f'up. The weight-carrying record for horses of this age is 9-3, by Patron in 1594, and the best performance in recent years up to Tuesday's race was Windbag's victory in 1925, when be carried 92, and defeated a champion three year-old and dual Derby winner in Manfred. Nightmsrch equalled this latter feat this year in carrying the same weight, and beating th* dual Derby winner, Phar Lap. Four-year olds who have been successful are:— , Tear. Horse. «t. 1!>.
