I ' Almost from infaiicy the boy showed ; J musical talent, and since 1923 has been ; }, saecesst'ul on several occasions at com- ■ \ petition festivals in r'firistchureh and 1 Wellington. His successes iu vocal mu.»ie t ' have been the more remarkable because he has had no special teaching in singing. Last year, at Christehurch, he won the Brovcn Scholarship for elocution, an award for boys under 14 years of ~ age. He also plays the violin and his I national and fancy dancing have at- * traded notice at competition festivals. , His youngest brother, aged just four years, scored a success at the last Wei- j ] lington competitions, and another I s brother. aged six years, is at pianist of promise. James Humphreys will join the Glee I J Singers upon their return to Christ- ' j, church toward the end of the present f fi month, and leave with them for Acs- J : fra'i.i. South Af'ica. England, and the Continent. Hi« engagement ■is for a term of from"two to three years.
