POULTRY INDUSTRY.

SOUTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION. The 30th annual report of the South Island Poultry Association states that 35 clubs are now affiliated. The Association's challenge shield, competed for at the Gore Show, was won by Mr A. E. Gwillam, of Dunedin. The We it port Clob had suffered a set-back through the earthquake, and deserved commendation, in the circumstances, for supporting the Association's art union. The council had spent a good deal of time on the compilation of the n<*w utility standard, and desired delegate* to give an expression of opinion on the only item in dispute between the South Inland and Xorth Island Associations. The item in dispute was as follow*:—The North Island Poultry Association wishes to insert in the new Utility Poultry Standard the following elau<M>: "That white in the face shall be a disqualification for both young and old birds, with the exception of Minorcas, in which breed it shall apply to old birds only." In the old standard, this applied to young birds only in all breeds. The council considers that to put such a clause in the utility standard to judge the utility classes at the shows would have the effect of almost deleting from shows the eock and hen elapses, for few, if any, old birds are free from white in the face to some extent. The balance-sheet shows a credit balance of £237 3s 14.
