YESTERDAY'S TRANSACTIONS. Markets were lively on call yesterday and there was a large turnover of Stocks especially in the Banking Section, and prices generally were firmer. Transactions exclusive of vestibule business included: — £2OO Christchurch Drainage Board 5J per cent. 1938-73. ! 600 Aust. Bank of Commerce. ItjuO Comm. Bank of Aust. 5 Comm. Bank of Sydney, l.j E. S. and A. imi National Bank of New Zealand. 20 Queensland National Bank (cum div\ 40 Union Bank of Australia. 700 N.Z. Befrigerating (10s paid). 23 New.Zealand Breweries. 30 Staples Brewery, s>i British Tobacco. 200 Mt. Lyell. 700 Winding Creek (6d paid). Buvers of Government Stocks were more in evidence than sellers. A parcel of Christchurch Drainage Board 5f per j cent. 1938-73 debentures was released I at £lOl 10b, and more were wanted at [ that price; no sellers offering. Australian Bank of Commerce shares changed hands on the morning call at 32s 6d and on the afternoon call at 325, market closing fractionally weaker. Commercial Bank of Australia had dealings at 27s Pd and 28s, market closing 27s lOd sellers, 27s 8d buyers. Commercial Bank of Sydney shares moved up 5s to business at £.24 10s. English, Scottish, and Australian Bank shares were stronger with business at £ 7 15s, sellers staying in at that figure, buyers at £7 13s". National Bank of New Zealand advanced to £6 15s 9d. Queensland National Bank cum dividend realised £9, and there were further buyers at that price, sellers at £9 10s. Union Bank of Australia changed hands at £l4 10s and £l4 10s 6d. National Insurance shares cum dividend were easier with sellers at 16s 3d, buyers at 15s lid. Dalgety and Company buyers raised their bids to £l4 3s 6d, sellers at £l4 10s. New Zealand Refrigerating Company 10s paid shares were firm at 6s, and there were further sellers at that figure, buyers at 5s lid. New Zealand Breweries recovered to 88s, closing quotations 87s 9d buyers, 88s 6d sellers. Staples Brewery shares were firm with business and buyers at 53s 3d, sellers at 53s 6d. Buyers of White Star Brewery shares raised their I bids to lis, sellers at 12s. British Tobacco shares jumped to 46s 2d, which was mid-market price on closing quotations. There was a firmer market for Electrolytic Zinc and Victoria Nyanza Sugar shares. Mt. lyells were taken at 41s 4d and 41s sd, with further buyers at the higher price, sellers at 41s 6d.
