TEMUKA.

MAGISTRATE'S COURT. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Mr A. Lowrie, J.P., presiding, John William Cyril Bill, charged with drunkenness, was fined 10s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. A contract for the repair of the Tetmuka bridge has been let and work will be commenced on Tuesday next. The timber is now on the spot. Dry Weather. The dry weather is having a bad effect. Some shearing has already been done, and the results have not been too satisfactory. The wool is light, there being an absence of grease. On the light land the pastures are prematurely drying up, and as the cows are coming in, the intake at the factories will be seriously affected, and the cheques will be smaller than was expected. The appearance of cereal crops indicates that they are feeling the effects of the dry spell. Farmers are desirous of getting the potato crop planted, but the dryness of the soil is delaying this work. Presbyterian Church. The annual meeting of the Temuka Presbyterian Church was held on Monday, the Kev. H. R. Fell presiding. The chairman mentioned that Mr Orlando Matthews, who died recently, had bequeathed £IOO to the Church funds, but this would not be available for ■tome time.
